Description Level fonds
Group Description Sustrans (Paths for People) is a charity which designs and build routes for cyclists, walkers and wheelchair users. Many of the paths are from reclaimed railway routes. One of the major routes is the Coast to Coast from Whitehaven to Sunderland which incorporated the Consett to Sunderland railway path. This route was one of the major attractions for Visual Arts year and features a number of sculptural works by, amongst others, Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Harris and David Kemp.
Material includes correspondence between Sustrans and Northern Sights, Derwentside District Council (including information on the siting of a new work, 'Terris Novalis' by artist Tony Craggs near the site of the former Consett steelworks which forms part of the Consett to Sunderland railway path); publicity material and copies of 'the Celestial Railroad' a novel by John Downie set along the length of the route.
